What is a Torque Motor?

Torque motors are a special class of brushless permanent-magnet synchronous motors  that are being used increasingly in high-precision and high torque applications. A torque motor is generally classified as direct drive motors as the load is directly connected to the rotor without the use of any transmission system. They are capable of delivering very high torque at various speeds. These motors offer simple control, very smooth motion, and maximum position accuracy, while minimizing size, weight and response time.
